Keeping Anheuser-Busch's Trucking Lane Running Without Missing a Shipment

When potholes and failing pavement started damaging shipments at a local Anheuser-Busch distribution facility, they needed a paving contractor who could deliver heavy-duty results without shutting down operations. B&C Blacktop was already a trusted vendor on their bid list, and when the pavement reached the end of its life, they called us in to fix it right.

The Challenge

Years of constant heavy truck traffic had worn the facility’s main trucking lane down to the point of failure—alligator cracking, potholes, and pavement so deteriorated that shipments were being damaged in transit, including broken bottles from the jostling caused by rough road conditions. The facility also needed its guard shack entry area, where trucks stop to check in and out at multiple gated stations, rebuilt in concrete. The catch: this is a working distribution facility. Trucks come in and out constantly, and there was no room to shut the lane down for the length of the project.

The Solution

B&C Blacktop’s crews performed a full-depth mill and repave of the main trucking lane, installing heavier-duty asphalt built to handle the constant weight of loaded trucks—a different spec than what you’d use on a standard parking lot. At the same time, our team replaced the concrete pad at the guard shack area where trucks check in and out. To keep the facility running, we sent our prep crew in first, with the paving crew following close behind the next day, allowing us to open and close sections of the lane in phases rather than closing the whole site down. The full project was completed in about a week with zero disruption to Anheuser-Busch’s deliveries.

The Result

Anheuser-Busch got a rebuilt trucking lane engineered for the heavy, constant loads their operation demands, along with a new concrete pad at their guard shack entry points, all without slowing down a single shipment. It’s the kind of project that shows what’s possible when a paving crew understands that for an industrial client, keeping the business running is just as important as the pavement itself.
